The MCH
Policy Research Center is providing staff support to a new federal
expert panel on pediatric subspecialty capacity. The panel will
assess the current problems of access to pediatric subspecialty
care, identify best practices in medical home and pediatric subspecialty
collaboration, develop a strategic plan to address the current crisis,
define state Title V agency roles and responsibilities, work with
leaders to implement policy and practice reforms, and evaluate continued
progress in improving the availability of pediatric subspecialty
care. Previously, the Center convened an expert panel to address
pediatric capacity and expertise in managed care, access to specialized
pediatric services, and reimbursement for children with special
needs. The Center also completed a national survey of state Title
V directors to elicit their perspectives on the availability of
medical homes, pediatric subspecialists, ancillary therapists, mental
health providers, home health care providers, and hospitals with
capacity to serve children with special needs.
